In 2011, Kingspan Group made a commitment that all Kingspan facilities would run entirely on renewable power by 2020. Right from Day 1 we have ‘walked the talk’ and we are delighted to be able to say that this is now paying off and we expect to exceed the interim target of 50% by 2016. The initiative is having significant benefits for the company. Between 2013 and 2014, a total of 15 Gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy was saved across global operations through the use of renewable energy. This saving can be seen as around a €1m contribution to net profit.
As a division we are committed to the Group’s Net-Zero Initiative, and we have been able to deliver significant results despite increased production at many of our sites. Since Net-Zero was introduced, five Kingspan manufacturing sites have been upgraded with our Roof Mounted Solar PV Systems, designed, installed and commissioned by Kingspan Energy. These systems reduce energy consumption and the release of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. The Group Head Office in Ireland reached Net Zero during 2012 with a 132 Kilowatt Peak (kWp) solar power installation. Altogether the five sites generated 1,131,567 Kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity in 2012.
